The proposed development of a five-story foot office building in Downtown Redwood City requires part of the historic Fox Theatre to be demolished. The developer of this project at 815 Hamilton Street is seeking council approval to move forward with the plan on Monday night. 650 square feet of the dressing room wing of the Fox Theatre would be affected by the project. Also included in the demolition plan are a parking lot on Hamilton Street and 840 Middlefield Road, a one-story office building.

Although the dressing room wing is not as historically significant as the front facade and interior theater area, there are some "character-defining features" designed in the neoclassical architectural style in which the rest of the theatre was built. A report the Planning Commission heard in June stated that these character-defining features shouls be preserved and incorporated back into the theater to the extent feasible as part of the construction project.

The City Council meeting at which this issue will be discussed will take place on Monday, July 27 at 7:00 PM in City Hall.
